In the February 2024 edition of the Logan Cross Cultural Liaison Unit Newsletter, a range of community events and initiatives were highlighted. The Kingston East Neighbourhood Group (KENG) celebrated the graduation of clients who completed studies in various fields, showcasing stories of hope and success. The Waitangi Day Celebration brought together over 4000 Maori community members, emphasizing cultural pride and unity through traditional ceremonies and festivities.
The Malayali Association Soccer Tournament, attended by PLOs Yousefi and Gavet, showcased the diversity within the Malayali community and their passion for sports. The Jajumbora Didgeridoo program aimed to educate young men and elders on cultural practices and community engagement, providing a platform for dialogue and learning. The IWAA Aged Care day out organized by the Islamic Women’s Association of Australia fostered connections among attendees from diverse ethnic backgrounds.
Chinese Lunar Celebration at the Fo Guang Shan Tian Temple celebrated the Lunar New Year with cultural performances and traditional foods, symbolizing prosperity and unity. The event highlighted the significance of the Lunar New Year in warding off evil spirits and embracing new beginnings. The Horse Whispering Program, designed to empower young individuals through equine therapy, emphasized self-awareness and positive decision-making skills.
The Kenyan International Students Forum, hosted by the CCLU Logan, facilitated information sessions and community engagement to support the Kenyan community. The Pacific Island Community Leaders Meeting focused on collaboration and idea-sharing to enhance community support and unity. Logan & Ipswich PLOs’ joint engagement in the Ipswich Region showcased teamwork and cross-district collaboration for community welfare.
The newsletter also featured the involvement of various PLOs and community leaders in events like the 76th Chin National Day celebration, demonstrating a commitment to cultural heritage and diversity. The impactful initiatives highlighted in the newsletter underscored the importance of community engagement and inclusivity in fostering positive relationships and empowering individuals from diverse backgrounds.
