The Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project has commenced with the awarding of the first major contracts, marking a significant milestone in the $5.75 billion initiative jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments. This project aims to enhance train services along the Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines to accommodate the region’s growing population.
The Martinus Degnan Joint Venture secured the contract for the Loganlea Station Relocation project, involving the construction of a new Loganlea station near Logan Hospital, Loganlea TAFE, and Loganlea State High School. This $173.76 million project, funded by both governments, will provide improved access for passengers with enhanced facilities and connections to local amenities.
The upgraded Loganlea station will feature increased capacity, better accessibility with ramps and lifts, and enhanced pedestrian and active transport links. Federal Minister Catherine King emphasized the project’s significance in boosting rail capacity and reducing travel times, benefiting the Logan community and passengers traveling between Brisbane, Logan, and the Gold Coast.
Queensland Transport Minister Bart Mellish highlighted the project’s importance in meeting the region’s transportation needs, especially with the impending Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The removal of five level crossings, including the Open Level Crossing Removal at Beenleigh Road, Kuraby, awarded to Bielby Hull Joint Venture, is a crucial step in improving safety and traffic flow along the rail corridor.
Public feedback on the initial design for level crossing removals indicated strong community support for enhancing safety and accessibility. The project aims to address key priorities such as local connections, community facilities, and ease of access. The Queensland Government is committed to collaborating with contractors to develop innovative solutions that offer value for money while incorporating community feedback.
Further enhancements are planned at Bethania to address complexities like flooding issues and preserve local access and connections. Community consultations on updated designs for the level crossing removals are scheduled for early 2025. These initiatives mark a significant step towards modernizing rail infrastructure and ensuring efficient and safe transportation for residents and visitors.
The Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project is poised to revolutionize rail services in the region, catering to the evolving needs of the community and supporting future growth and events. With a focus on enhancing connectivity, accessibility, and safety, these infrastructure developments are vital for ensuring a sustainable and efficient transport network in Logan City, Queensland.
